Mariana Diez (Piano)

IMG_0992Born in Buenos Aires, she graduated at “Conservatorio Nacional Carlos López Buchardo” as National Piano Professor, at “Instituto Universitario de Artes” as Musical Arts Professor and at Popular Music Avellaneda School as Jazz Piano Player. She studied piano with teachers Susana Bonora and Eduardo Páez and in the field of tango with Orlando Trípodi. She also studied analysis and composition with Graciela Tarchini and Manolo Juárez.

She was part of several different instrumental groups, such as Buenos Aires Express Quintet, Oscar Caffieri Quartet, “Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce”, performing in some of the most prestigious theaters in Buenos Aires (National Cervantes Theater; President Alvear Theater among others) across Argentina and several countries around the world. In1993-1994 she toured Japan as pianist of Almagro trio. In 2001 she played at Théâtre National de Chaillot in ocassion of the Buenos Aires Tango Festival in Paris, held by the government of Buenos Aires city. From December 2002 to January 2003 she took part of “Homenaje a Pugliese” tour as pianist of Color Tango Orchestra performing in renamed halls of Holland, Sweden, Denmark and Italy, together with the singer Abel Córdoba. Since April 2009 she is the pianist of Color Tango Orchestra.
She accompanied several tango singers such as Amelita Baltar, Nacha Guevara and Ciara.

In 1999 she participated in the recording of the album“Orlando Trípodi. Homenaje”. In 2002 she contributes as a guest artist in “Aromando coplas”, Albahaca’s Vocal Group first album. Nowadays she is their permanent pianist and has recorded in Albahaca’s second album “Perspectivas”. In 2007 she wrote the orchestral arrangements for tango singer Ciara’s album “Igneo” and also participated in recording sessions as pianist and conductor.

In 2005 she received an Honourable Mention at the Tango Competition “Premio Osvaldo Pugliese”, held by “Fondo Nacional de las Artes” and “Instituto Movilizador de Fondos Cooperativos” for her arrangement of the piece of music “La Beba”.

Since year 2000 she has been working as a piano teacher at Popular Music Avellaneda School.
